Xoanon' FAQ

Can anybody join in?

Absolutely! We have categories to suit everyone’s collection. Just let us know if you want to take part in the whole shebang, or whether you want to be placed in DVD releases only, pick ups (if you have everything after a certain point), or assorted classics + New Series (for those with incomplete classic collections).

When does it start, and how much do I need to watch per day?

It started on the 45th anniversary – 23rd November 2008 with An Unearthly Child (or the 22nd for those watching the pilot episode). We’ll be watching roughly 45 minutes per day (2 x classic series episodes or 1 x New Series episode – Now no pedants there please! I know some of the classic episodes were double length too!). That is a rough guide. See the full schedule below as there is the occasional variation.

What’s happening online?

We’ve already started some of the frivolities. We’ve gone through each season/series predicting what each story would rate. Newcomers are welcome to post their thoughts/ratings of these at anytime. There’ll be other games and discussions too, leading up to the start of the marathon.

During the marathon there’ll be ongoing extras also. Over the course of the marathon there’ll be a running quiz. All the points will be tallied and there’ll be some neat prizes to be won. So don’t miss out!

Will there be one thread, or individual story threads?

After much discussion it’s been decided to run individual story threads. The marathon will be taking place in the Universe Forum, so it should be fairly easy to find the stories as they will all start with “The Great 2009 Doctor Who Nap Year Marathon - ….”

What happens if I can’t keep up?

No problem. Just go to the relevant story thread when you are ready to post (the completed story titles in the calendar below are clickable links). One of the great things about so many people doing it together is that you’ll have plenty of support and encouragement.

What are participants doing for the missing stories and episodes?

There are many ways to approach this problem. If possible, the Loose Cannon reconstructions are probably the best way overall. There’s also the audio releases (sometimes combined with BBC telesnaps), TARGET novels, and copies of the original scripts. You just need to decide the way that best suits you.

Will the marathon cover spin off material?

K9 & Co., The Infinite Quest, the SJA and Torchwood - yes. Everything else – no. See the schedule below for full details.

Who do I ask if I have any questions?

If you can’t find the answer here, please feel free to PM or Email either Alinor or myself (Xoanon). We’ll be only too happy to assist.

How many people are taking part?

There's over 100 of us now (well over if you count the facebook contingent). See the list of participants at the bottom of this post.
